A presentation on how to stay safe online and set boundaries online. Available for elementary students or for junior high and high school students.
Elementary students learn about integrity and are tasked with the job of being good cyber citizens. We discuss trusted adults, the magnitude of the Internet, and the privacy (or lack thereof) that we have online. We go through popular websites and apps like YouTube, Google, Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok, providing privacy and safety tips as well as sharing any kid-friendly alternatives for each one. We also discuss safe practices for online gaming, define and expand on cyberbullying, and work through some questions and scenarios to solidify what we have learned.
Junior high and high school students talk about the magnitude of the Internet and the impact that social media has on us. We discuss the terms and conditions and go over safety and privacy tips associated with some of the most popular websites and apps, like YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, and Discord. We go over some best practices for online gaming before discussing the impacts of pornography on the developing brain and on relationships. We end with a discussion about sexting, the risks of this behavior, and the legal implications of non-consensual photo sharing. This presentation includes videos on social media’s impact on us and some of its negative consequences (anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicide).
